種菜人（Vegetable grower）
種菜人正在菜園裡澆菜，有個人跑過來問他，為什麼野菜生得很茂盛，人們栽種的菜卻很瘦弱。他回答說:“地是野菜的親孃，卻是家菜的後孃。”
寓意：適用於那些為自己的懶惰編造藉口的人。
The vegetable grower was watering vegetables in the garden. A man ran over and asked him why the wild vegetables were flourishing. The vegetables planted are very thin. He replied, "the ground is the mother of wild vegetables, but it is the stepmother of domestic vegetables."
Moral: for those who make up excuses for their laziness.
種園人和狗（Gardeners and dogs）
種菜人的狗掉到了井裡。他想把狗從井裡救上來，於是他自己也下到井裡，可狗卻以為主人下來是要把它再捺到水裡去，儘快淹死它。所以當種菜人挨近狗時，狗便轉過身來，咬了他一口。種菜人忍著巨痛一邊往上爬，一邊說：“我真是活該!為什麼我要這麼熱心去救它呢?”
寓意：諷刺那些無情無義、恩將仇報的人。
The vegetable grower's dog fell into the well. He wanted to save the dog from the well, so he went down into the well himself, but the dog thought that the owner came down to press it into the water and drown it as soon as possible. So when the vegetable grower approached the dog, the dog turned and bit him. The vegetable grower climbed up with great pain and said, "I deserve it! Why should I be so enthusiastic to save it?"
Moral: satirize those who are ruthless and bite the hand that feeds them.
